I plan on two major research directives during the period of this reward with the goal of developing perovskite photovoltaics into a more commercially viable solar solution. The first directive is research into the scale up of organometallic perovskite film deposition; taking knowledge of current practices of spin and blade coating and determining deposition and processing conditions required to translate this material onto a roll to roll printing system, which imposes substrate, temperature, atmosphere, and time related constraints which are not present in current lab settings. The second directive is to examine the use of wide band gap organometallic perovskite solar cell as a top absorber in a tandem cell with a narrow band gap CIGS cell in both conventional and novel architectures with the goal of achieving efficiencies above 30%.
